Safawi dates are one of the most popular varieties from Saudi Arabia and for good reason. Their deep dark brown colour, medium-large size and intensely sweet rich flavour make them one of the most satisfying dates you can eat. They are softer and moister than many other varieties with a slight stickiness that signals genuine freshness and good sugar content.
The flavour of Safawi is bold and sweet with a slight caramel-like depth. They are less intensely complex than Ajwa but considerably more accessible for everyday eating and they work wonderfully in cooking as well. Their size makes them easy to stuff with almonds or walnuts for a premium presentation at gatherings and gifting.
